Clinical Jobs option after BDS

1. JR Junior Resident:

Benefit of JR ship is you get the clinical exposure and pay. You can fine tune your practice and then you can setup of your clinic. There are 40-50 vacancies available in each state. As JR you can get the salary in between INR 35000 to INR 70000 per month.

JR Eligibility:
  • Recently BDS pass out students Apply only.
  • No MDS students are eligible
  • Certain colleges have own entrance exam then interview
  • Certain college accept students those are finished the internship within last two year, If you done paid JR ship in any other college They don't hire you.

2. Join a Clinic

There are plenty of good jobs in clinical sector and non-clinical sectors & higher study opportunities available after getting the BDS degree. After the BDS a lot of students opt this option because before setup own clinic need to get more experience is always important. If you join clinic, you get the salary up to INR 25000/-

After joining a clinic, you get the certain clinical procedures, practice management, soft skills to manage patients and other clinic staff.

3. Join a Small Hospital or a Trust with their own dental unit

You get the corporate jobs in private hospital or in trust with their own clinic. The salary package for small hospital or a trust is approx. INR 20000/- per month.
Sometime In the trust or in a small hospital there is no mentor or guide to help you so in this case your mistakes will go uncorrected.

4. Set up your own clinic and earn INR 70000 to 1.2 Lac per month

Once you get the clinical exposure and experience you can set up your own clinic.

We suggest gain the experience first so that you have in hand experience of following skills.

  • knowledge of basic treatments
  • knowledge about diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Managing patients
  • Management skills.

5. Go Abroad & Practice Clinical Dentistry

If not keen on practicing in India, you can think about going abroad.

  • Gulf Countries: You can do the dentistry practice in the Gulf Countries. For the Gulf Countries, the candidate must clear the MOH (Ministry of Health) exam which is not that difficult to clear.
  • UK: The ORE is an exam that overseas qualified dentists have to pass in order to register with the GDC. Registration allows dentists to practise unsupervised in the UK.
    The ORE exam has two parts, Part 1 is a written exam and Part 2 is a clinical exam.
  • USA: The National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) is the United States national dental examination for students and professionals in dentistry. It is required for licensure in the United States and may also be required when applying for postgraduate studies in dental specialties after completing a dental degree. Foreign-trained dentists also must take the NBDE in order to earn admission into advanced standing programs in US dental schools. NBDE exam has two parts, NBDE I and NBDE II.
  • Australia:ADC (Australian Dental Council) conduct the assessment in three stages. After qualifying ADC, you can apply for a dentist licence with DBA (Dental Board of Australia).
  • UAE:To work in Dubai particularly, you must have a DOH license provided by Dubai Health Authority, UAE's Health Ministry.
  • Singapore:To be eligible to practice as a dentist in Singapore, you must have a dental degree that is approved by Singapore Dental Council.

6. Join The Army Dental Corps

The Indian Army Dental Corps is a specialist corps in the Indian Army which primarily provides medical services to all Army personnel, serving and veterans, along with their families. Total Seat available 30-70 each year, depend on army requirement.

    Eligibility:
  • No written exam
  • Selection is based on NEET exam score
  • BDS/MDS Candidates with at least 55% marks in final BDS from an institute recognized by the Dental Council of India, for the batch in which the candidate obtained his degree.
  • Personal interview
  • Medical for your medical fitness

7. Join Government Jobs in railway

Various jobs are available in organizations such as Railways, BARC, and others. There are very few jobs in the railway, but we can't ignore it.

    Eligibility:
  • Have a valid BDS degree
  • At least 3 years of exp.
  • If you have postgraduate, then exp is not require
  • Check the advertisement of railways website.

8. MDS

MDS is best option now, if you get the good score in NEET PG and then get a Good Govt. College those offer your good amount of stipend approx. 40000/- to 70000/- per months.

State Govt. organizations release number of notifications every year 300 to 400 Vacancies as Dental Surgeon.

A cosmetic dentist is responsible for a variety of procedures - from minor fixes to major surgeries.
Modern cosmetic dentistry on improving the appearance of your mouth, teeth, gums, and overall smile. Common procedures include teeth whitening, veneers, fillings, and implants.

11. Join the Dental Chain as practitioner Gain Exp. and Money.

At the last if you do not get any above clinical option, you can join the dental chain where you get the clinical experience and money also.

2. Join ICMR

Option 1- You can Join ICMR as researcher and do the direct PhD after BDS (available seats 10)
  • Total vacancy is 20 and only BDS recently pass out student will apply there. As research MDS student are not eligible, only BDS recently pass out eligible and apply within 2 years.
  • As a researcher in ICMR you get the 1 Lac stipend, after research you can join ICMR institution or will be go abroad for the further research.
  • Option 2- You Can Join as Scientist 'D'(Dental) In ICMR
  • BDS & MDS regular degree recognized by DCI or equivalent degree* with 5 years R&D/ teaching/ working experience in a Govt/ Public Sector/ Private Institutions.
  • Age limit is 45 years
  • Salary Pay Level- Rs.78,800 to Rs.2,09,200 (Grade Pay - 76000/-)

3. After BDS you can do MBA in Hospital Management and MBA in Public Health

You can do the better management because you have the clinical exposure which you learn in your internship and in course duration. So, Hospital management is also good option after BDS.
All the medical companies and medical equipment manufacturing companies give the preference to you because have knowledge of equipment and comes from medical background.

Pharmacovigilance (PV) is the process of detecting and monitoring adverse drug reactions (ADR), adverse events (ADE), detecting potential 'signals' throughout the drug/medical device lifecycle, and also tracking trends in consumers' sentiments
In India the domestic pharmaceutical industry includes a network of 3,000 drug companies and ~10,500 manufacturing units. Pharmacovigilance clinical researcher is good option.

In the insurance company you get the job opportunities in various profiles such as auditor, Actuary, insurance examiners, insurance appraisers and investigators, claims handlers, etc.

8. Forensics Dentistry

Forensic dentistry or forensic odontology is the handling, examination and evaluation of dental evidence in criminal justice cases.

There are a lot of colleges and organizations which have come up with courses on forensic dentistry/ Forensic odontology.
